Battery Tender - What a product! (Review)

If you have ever watched "My Classic Car" you have seen the man from the Battery Tender Company talk about his products. From a simple unit that "float" charges one battery to a unit that charges multiple cars/bikes. Well, when I saw an ad for the Battery Tender in Hagerty's Magazine, I thought, well, Mustang Mike, this sound like a product you could use! So here are my thoughts on this great product.

I received two units. The Battery Tender Jr., a unit that "float" charges the battery, is hooked up to my lawn tractor. It keeps the battery always up and ready to fire. I don't need to use any clamps, because even this unit comes with a set up that allows me to permanently hook up a connector to the battery that stays on the battery at all times. I simply plug in the charger at the end of the day and leave it plugged in until the next time the grass is tall. It has a light that tells me when it is working, so I know the battery is being charged! This is a 12 volt, 750mA system.

The second unit is a bit more sophisticated. This is called the Battery Tender "Plus". It is a 12 volt, 1.25 amp unit that gives a hefty charge to start with, and then, when the battery is charged up, it goes to "float". Why is it a "float" and not a trickle charge? The "float" charge keeps your battery at a proper storage voltage without the damaging effect of a "trickle" charge. This is done with BTP microchip technology that will extend the life of your battery and eliminate battery destroying sulfation! This unit will charge and maintain any type of lead-acid, AGM (absorbed glass mat), sealed calcium, or gel batteries. A great item with a powder coated aluminum chassis (won't rust), and carries a 10 year-yes that is right- a ten year warranty. Only weighing in at 2.7 pounds!

What can you use it for? Your classic car, motorcycle, boat, yard tractor, ATV, snowmobile, skidoo or RV.
