2011 Chevrolet Camaro Convertible priced from $30,000

Photobucket

GM has finally come out and announced that its upcoming Camaro convertible will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, hot on the heels of auctioning off the first example at Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale.

The 'vert will be available with both the 3.6 liter V6 and 6.2 liter V8, with either the standard transmission or automatic. It will hit dealerships next February, which is certain to be a drag for those looking to drive off the lot with the top down unless you live in a warmer climate.

Pricing starts at $30,000 with destination, which is a $7,000 premium over the coupe.

Press Release

Opening Soon: 2011 Camaro Convertible

DETROIT – The 21st century rebirth of the Chevrolet Camaro opens a new chapter when the 2011 Camaro Convertible premieres at the Los Angeles International Auto Show on Nov. 17.

The Camaro Convertible will arrive in Chevrolet showrooms in February 2011. Starting price will be $30,000, including $850 destination. (Full details will be released later this year.)

"The Convertible will make the all-new Camaro, already a smash-hit, even more desirable to a greater range of drivers," says Chris Perry, vice president of Chevrolet Marketing.

The Convertible model will be available in the same basic model offering as the Camaro Coupe. The standard model will have a 312-hp Direct Injection V6 engine featuring 29 miles per gallon on the highway. The SS model will feature the 6.2-liter V8 engine producing 426 hp. A six-speed manual transmission will be standard, with an optional six-speed automatic.

Camaro is America's most popular sports car, seizing leadership in U.S. sales with the coupe model that launched in spring of 2009 as a 2010 model. The right to purchase one of the first Convertibles was recently sold at the Barrett-Jackson auction for $205,000, with all proceeds donated to charity.

Ford to reveal 2011 Mustang powertrain upgrades at L.A. Auto Show

The Los Angeles Auto Show is shaping up to be a big one for Ford, as they will be bringing along the US version of the Fiesta as well as letting the world know what types of engine and power offerings we will be getting in 2011 for the venerable Mustang.

Derrick Kuzak, Ford's global product development chief, stated on FoxNews.com's Fox Car Report that all of our Mustang questions would be answered in Los Angeles this December. Rumors regarding said engine options include a hi-po V6 putting out over 300hp, and a 400hp 5.0L V8, as well as an aluminum block 5.4L for the Shelby GT500.

Next generation Chrysler 300/Charger to get 8 speed auto

Chrysler C300Image by khalid almasoud via FlickrIt's pretty obvious at this point that Cerberus doesn't want to keep Chrysler, and economic realities have scuttled any potential suitors that might have been interested in buying the company. All of this has led to speculation that there may not even be any plans for any future vehicles in Chrysler's future. Product development VP Frank Klegon insists that new Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep models are on their way, and he points to the next 300/Charger as proof.

Klegon told Automotive News at the LA Auto Show that the 2011 redesign of these two large, rear-wheel-drive sedans will beat projected 2011 CAFE standards. That feat will be accomplished with improvements to aerodynamics, axle ratios and upgraded engines. Klegon mentioned that the upcoming Phoenix engines, the development of which has not been cancelled, would motivate the Charger and 300.

The new Phoenix family of V6 engines will have variable valve timing, cylinder deactivation and direct injection among its many efficiency increasing technologies. Automotive News also mentioned that Chrysler may employ an eight-speed automatic transmission to further improve performance and fuel economy. We don't know of any Chrysler transmission projects that are this ambitious, and Daimler currently utilizes only seven cogs in its Mercedes lineup, but suppliers like Aisin and ZF already have 8 speeds on the market.

The customization of the 2010 Mustang begins!

Ford is wasting no time letting it's future Mustang owners customize their soon to be new ride. They realize that a stock Mustang is nothing more than a canvas for enthusiasts, a starting point for a thriving aftermarket. With this in mind, visitors to the L.A. Auto Show are able to digitally customize their own version of the pony car right on the showroom floor.

A total of 43 accessories will be available, from wheels to spoiler to hood scoops. Wheels will be available in a variety of finishes, and body parts will come in black, silver, or body color. A carbon fiber package will even be available. Taking it a step further, Ford will have the crew from Galpin Auto Sports on hand to pick a design every hour and actually install the parts on a V6 convertible and a GT coupe to provide a real life look at the car.

In depth with the 2010 Ford Mustang

The new 2010 Ford Mustang is out in the open for all to see, and so far everything looks really good. The exterior looks more menacing and more modern than the outgoing model, and the interior is much revised with better materials. Autoblog was able to get the Mustang's head exterior and interior designers, as well as the pony car's head engineer to give them some detailed info about the car in this nice little video. And being as the Mustang in the video is my personal new favorite color, grabber blue, they receive many bonus kudos.

2010 Ford Mustang GT pricing and options leak out

2010 Ford MustangImage by Ford Motor Company via FlickrWe're less than a day away from the official unveiling of the 2010 Ford Mustang at the L.A. Auto Show, and little bits of information are trickling out as we speak. The latest is that we now have some purported pricing and option information on at least the Mustang GT Premium package. If accurate, the price of the GT Premium will climb by about $935 to $30,095, a jump of 3.2%. Looking at the equipment list though, it appears some new features are included in that price like 18-inch wheels that were previously optional and SYNC. Other standard equipment includes automatic headlamps, LED tail-lights and body-colored mirrors. If this information is accurate, one other annoyance of the 2005-2009 Mustangs has been addressed with an interior trunk release, something that was previously missing. Ford will be revealing everything very soon, so stay tuned.

Tenth and final weekly teaser pic of the 2010 Mustang

What a long, strange trip it's been. For way too many weeks now, we've been tortured with little snippets of the new 2010 Mustang. Now we've reached the grand finale with the tenth and final picture revealing the rear quarter view of the car.

We really like what we see, especially the rear spoiler which now has a ducktail design instead of being raised from the rear decklid. The taillights maintain their classic three-pillar design, although they now have a more tailored look that flows along the line of the rear bumper.

According to Ford, there will also be an option for a rear-view camera, although we don't know exactly where the camera will be placed. We'll bring you all the details and plenty of photos next week from the LA Auto Show, when we will finally get a complete unveiling of the car.

2010 Ford Mustang Teaser pic of the week

Finally, Ford has zoomed out a little bit on it's camera lens to give us a pretty revealing look at the interior of it's soon to be revealed 2010 Mustang.

The Dearborn-based automaker appears to be modernizing its retro duds with the latest edition. There's plenty of metal-look silver plastic and black leather giving everything a suitably sporty appearance.

The center stack looks to have some sort of LCD panel at the top with its controls grouped in a nice tight pattern below. We dig the pleated seats and triangular inner door panels along with the contrasting white stitching, as well.

After this latest shot, we'd guess that the Blue Oval team will switch back to the exterior now that there isn't much left to see on the inside. There's just two more agonizing teaser shots left before the 2010 'Stang's official unveiling at the LA Auto Show in a little over 13 days, and we're looking forward to seeing it all in person and up close.

2010 Mustang teaser pic of the week - the center console

And the agonizingly slow trickle of detailed pictures continues. This weeks teaser picture of the 2010 Mustang reveals the lower part of the center console and full view of the gear shift. The short shifter with the metal ball grip can be seen rising from its leather boot in a chrome-trimmed rectangular recess, while buttons for the trunk release, traction control and hazard lights are embedded close by. We also see the HVAC controls are situated at the bottom of the center stack below the stereo controls. There are only three more locked slots left to reveal on Ford's mini-site for the 2010 Mustang before the car itself is revealed in full at the LA Auto Show next month.

Giugiaro Mustang doing donuts on video

Ford Mustang Giugiaro concept at Moscow motor ...Image via WikipediaThe Giugiaro Mustang concept has been around since the 2006 LA Auto Show, but it's still a great looking car. The upcoming 2010 Mustang has even taken some of it's styling cues, especially on the front end.

It's no secret that the Fabrizio Giugiaro-designed pony car concept has been out on the street being driven since its debut, as Mr.Giugiaro messed up a rim while (poorly) parking his creation in Bulgaria last year.

This video has surfaced from last February showing the Mustang doing some donuts in a parking lot. Even more impressive is the fact that most concept cars don't even run under their own power, let alone do donuts. And the ones that can don't see this kind of tomfoolery because they cost millions of dollars.

Fresh spy shots: 2010 Mustang

Spy shots of the new Mustang are easy to come by nowadays, as Ford has seemingly been tooling around Detroit in them without a care in the world. This time we bring you shots of the '10 GT model, taken in the parking lot of a shopping mall.

The pictures show off most of the goods, including the new front end inspired by the Giuigiaro Mustang Concept that debuted in 2006 at the LA Auto Show.

The 2010 model has a tougher job on it's hands than the '05 model. This time it's a refresh instead of a major design change. Not to mention that the Mustang faces some stiff competition in the form the the Challenger and Camaro.

And no, the cow-like paint scheme will not be a factory option.

2010 Mustang dash revealed

The Paris Auto Show has come and gone, and we're still looking at sneaky pictures of various pieces of the 2010 Mustang. Ford continues to toy with us by revealing the dash of the car in it's entirety this week.

The poorly lit, extreme closeup picture at least reveals the entire dash, unlike a previous photo that showed an angled shot, with a partial look at it.

While GM has just given up on trying to camouflage the new Camaro, Ford presses on and has plans to drop six more weeks of pictures to tease and annoy us.

The new Mustang will be officially unveiled at the Los Angeles auto show on November 19th.

2010 Ford Mustang revealing picture of the week

We've seen the new soon to be revealed 2010 Mustang's hood, dash, and bits and pieces of the body. This week, we see the new seats.

The darkened picture of the seats and center console is a teaser much like previous shots. The new thrones look mighty inviting, with a nice amount of padding and some American sized bolsters.

The center console appears to be a little bit taller than the current generations.

Stay tuned for next weeks revealing picture, all leading up to the car's official reveal.

2010 Mustang Dash

This week's exciting revealing picture of the upcoming 2010 Mustang is....the dash.

But in all seriousness, it is indeed a nice looking piece. It appears that the quality of the parts involved is much improved over the previous 'stang.

I must say that the previous generation had a nice looking dash for pictures, but it felt pretty cheap to me. Hopefully all of this has been fixed with the new dash.

The materials involved have a high quality look to them, and are accented by a three spoke steering wheel featuring the new Mustang logo in the center.

The circular air vents at each end and gauge cluster are adorned with chrome bezels, and the seats appear to be finished with some stitching work, as does the steering wheel. A square vent appears above the center stack.

Stay tuned for next weeks revealing photos leading up to the 2010 Mustang's official unveiling.
