National Collector Car Appreciation Day, July 09, 2010

Quotes are made from "AutoTrader Classics"

The United States Senate passed Senate Resolution 513 (S. Res 513) at the request of the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) and the Automotive Restoration Market Organization (ARMO) Council designating July 9, 2010 as "Collector Car Appreciation Day." The resolution was the result of an effort undertaken by ARMO as a means to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society.

That is a quote from the article in Auto Trader telling us the news. Here is what they suggest to we who own collector cars:

In recognition of the day, collectors and enthusiasts will be hosting events across the country. Jim Barber, Chairman of SEMA’s Automotive Restoration Market Organization (ARMO) Council said, “Individuals, car clubs, and businesses affiliated with ARMO are proud to be recognized as leaders in today’s economy. Car cruises, club gatherings, and other educational events will be scheduled for July 9 nationwide. ARMO is looking forward to assisting with these events and is appreciative of this special acknowledgment by the Senate.”

Not only do classic car restorers save classic cars for the future generations, they provide "well-paying, high skilled jobs."

As part of “Collector Car Appreciation Day,” a variety of events are currently being scheduled to commemorate America’s time-tested love affair with the automobile. For a listing of events, please contact Jim Skelly, SEMA Council Director at 909/396-0289.

Antique Repro Gas Pump/Gum Ball Machine.

I just received my Reproduction Antique Gas Pump Gum Ball Machine from Joe and is it a beeute!

Joe has two more. One yellow, one green, so don't wait! Call me now or email me. mustangmike289@yahoo.com and tell me your color choice. $300 is better than $2000 they cost new. Mine looks like brand new!

Thanks, Joe! When we get the new house, I will find a place of honor for this neat machine!

Thanks to all of you who come here regularly and see what I am up to. We have a great show coming up this Saturday, July 10th, in downtown Zeeland, Michigan. "Catch the Zeel!" Always a good time with lots of classic cars, good food and plenty to do. So come on out and say hi! Look for the red 64 1/2 Mustang with the cute little dog guarding the car!

Luther's Cruisers Progressive Dinner July 2008

It started good, it got worse, and then... I was up and ready to leave the house at 7:30. My friend Ed was at the door as it started to rain! Darn. The Zeeland Car Show was going to be rained out! We sat around until 9:30 waiting for the rain to stop, or at least slow down so we could take off. We grabbed a couple of things and took off at 9:30. Thought we might get to see some cars through the raindrops. I didn't take my camera, since a good picture can't usually be taken through the rain. But the rain stopped, the sun came out and we had a beautiful day. But I got no pictures! Next event, I guess. Sorry for my readers who were looking forward to seeing their cars on my site.

But that night we had a progressive dinner with Luther's Cruisers Car Club! It was supposed to rain that night, too, but it never did and we had a great time. If you have a small club and want to do this, it is tons of fun. You will need a couple who will do appetizers, one couple for the salad, one for the main course and one for dessert. Start with the appetizer, meet at their home. Have your snacks, some great talking, and start the convoy to the next home for salad. More great talking, a cold drink, and cruise off for the main course. Caravan style, of course! More talking, more fun, and off for dessert!

Everyone was arriving and we parked the cars in a row. We had to combine appetizers and salad both at Don and Margaret's home. Their gracious friend came over to help, a big thank you to her. She stayed behind and dutifully cleaned up after we left. The salads were terrific! Cheese and crackers, condiments, a good start to the evening. Thanks, Don and Margaret!

Paul and Rosie came with a new car that Paul had just finished. A 1955 Chevy Sedan. Love the color! The interior, as you can see, looks like new. Paul is very fussy and wants everything to look like new. He had success with this one! Watch for an upcoming tour of Paul's garage.

Call to food! Come on guys, time to eat! Come on, Jim and Beth, time to eat! Everyone stop looking at the cars and head over to the gazebo. Complete with a kitchen in the back. Good eats, Margaret!

We file in, take a plate and dig in! Where is the cola, Becky? Oh, there they are! Thanks! Terry, get in here and get some before I eat it all! Oh, he is already here!

Good times, great food, great talk. Tell us some stories, Stuart. Hey, Bob, when are we going flying again in the power parachute? I hear Don wants to go! Brad & Carol, tell us about getting stuck in the sand at Lake Michigan! Suzanne, get Stuart some coffee! Jane wants to try some of that jalapeno cheese!

Peek through the bushes. What is going on at this house, the neighbors were asking. This is all they could see. Sorry you couldn't come. We missed you!

Arriving at Steve and Renee's house, we took a minute to look at Bob's new 2004 Corvette. Sharp car, Bob. Look at the shine in that fender. Maybe I can post one of these shots on Skywatch Friday!

Steve is cooking up some burgers and dogs. I wonder if he learned that skill cooking for Brown's Burgers and Dogs at Christ Lutheran Church. I bet he did! They were great, Steve! Thanks for the eats and that cold soda! Terrific!

I sure don't know what got into Renee and Rosey, but it looks like they were having fun! Thanks, Renee. But we have to get to Bob and Vickies for dessert. Our thanks to Bob and Vicky, it was a bit late and I never got any good pictures at your house! I guess it was too dark. But we had great dessert! Loved that Chocolate frosted eclair cake! Mmmmmmmm!
