Luther's Cruisers Car Club tour of Jer and Barb's Garage

Time for another Luther's Cruisers Car Club garage tour. Our thanks to our hosts, Jer and Barb, for a great tour. They have worked very hard on this garage to make it what it is today. Many antiques, lots of Zepher collectibles- (Jer used to work for a Zepher station as a younger man) lots of newer collectibles, too. Take a look and see what you can see. Look closely and try to find something from YOUR youth!
Jer and Barb have another sharp car that was parked outside. See it on my next post when we visit Holland, Michigan, and take in a car show!

Here we are, ready to take the tour. Led by my Mustang, with a storm threatening, our club's members chose their regular street cars. Not me! I am READY for the summer, car shows, and garage tours!! That is my better half, Jane, on the left, and Eddie and Jim in the street asking for directions. Hey, Eddie, we're already there!

Let's begin with the custom diner made for Jer (Jerry.) This was a custom built diner by the previous owner of Rosie's Diner in Rockford. Look through the window and you will see a Jerry's Burger on the menu!

This beautiful car is a real award winner. Jer did all the work himself, except the paint. He has a great eye for detail. You can see this car on a previous post showing the cars at the Grand Rapids Autorama. A picture taken under the hood is at that post so take a minute, when you are through here, and go to "previous posts" at the very bottom and take a look! That is Jer on the left, Bob and Vicki along with Beth on the right of the car.

The paint looks like it is an inch thick! Looks good enough to eat! Hey, Barb, grab me a spoon!!

Listening intently, two of our members, Don and Margaret, are hearing some new stories about cars - who worked where, or when, or something else very important!

Jim, Bob, and Don discuss the weather, or whether or not they could somehow break in and help themselves to some neat stuff. No way guys! This garage has more alarms than a Brink's bank!

What a straight, clean, and beautiful '57 Chevy. The rack holding the Chevy can be raised and another car can park under the '57! Great use of space.

That is not a real mechanic on the floor. Jer has some mannequins around doing various jobs. They work while we have a good time talking. Now that's neat!

Must be a lot to talk about. Seems that some of our car club members used to know Jer in another life. Jer's sister went to school with Ed, Don knew Jer's dad, or was that Len who knew him, or was it Judy who worked with...well anyway, lots to talk about!

My dad used to work for Naph-Sol refinery, makers of Zepher gas. It was great to see so many Zepher collectibles and so much automotive paraphernalia. It was like being in an antiques shop for men!

Steak and Shake was well represented with the complete set of dishes, a Steak and Shake sign and even a juke box selector. Jer has a beautiful remake of the 1946 Wurlitzer 1040 and it plays CDs! And take a look at the old phone booth. Don't see those around anymore! Hey, momma, call me a cab!

I never did ask if Jer just liked Blackjack gum or did he just like the nostalgic feel of the stacked gum display...hmmm.

Most of these models are duplicates of the cars that Jer owns, has owned, or hopes to own. There must be 8 or 10 Pontiac Grand Prixes, just like the one he has in his showroom!
Not one Mustang. Not one. I must talk to Jer about that....

I didn't get the scoop on the motor bike. I am sure there is a story...My thanks to Mike who writes a neat blog, this is a Cushman. Mike is looking for one to restore. Can you help him? Write me!
Hope you enjoyed yourself on this garage tour. Stop in next time when we take in the Holland Car Show at Sam's Club in Holland. Hope it doesn't rain! See you there!
