Viper ACR Roadsters built for Woodhouse Dodge

Photobucket

Being the number one sales volume leader in Dodge Viper sales for 11 years has its perks. And when Dodge decided to end production of the Viper in its current form, Woodhouse Dodge put in a request for a convertible Viper ACR. And surprisingly, Dodge obliged.

Since the ACR is a car known for its downforce producing aerodynamics, the aero bits and pieces had to be massaged to work on a roadster - namely the rear wing and the front spoiler. Dodge built 20 examples of the car for Woodhouse, so interested parties should contact them in Blair, Nebraska. Price is a hefty $107,310, but how often do you get such a rare opportunity?

Video: Dodge Viper ACR-X on the dyno

There's something undeniably pulse quickening about race cars, and the brutal power that their engines produce. Perhaps it is the raw and purpose built nature that draws us to them, maybe it is just the fact that they are fast.

The Dodge Viper ACR-X is both purpose built and fast. It forgoes the stock Viper's catalytic converters, adds forged pistons, modified calibration, and long tube headers. All that is good for 640 horsepower and 605 pound feet of torque.

The video above shows the 8.4L V10 going through it's paces courtesy of Dodge engineers. As you will see, there's nothing more mesmerizing than the sound of the engine coupled with the ominous red glow of those long tube headers.

Video: 2010 Dodge Viper ACR sets track record at Laguna Seca

The Dodge Viper was never what many would consider a track car, at least until the ACR showed up. Built as a lighter alternative to a regular SRT10 with ten times the downforce (thanks to a huge wing), the ACR has been setting records ever since.

The 2010 ACR is even more serious than the 2009. With a faster top speed of 202 mph, revised gear ratios that take it to that speed 14 seconds quicker than it's predecessor.

The latest record to fall was the single lap record at Laguna Seca when this particular ACR ran it in with a time of 1:33.944, beating the previous record by more than a second. You can see two videos below, one an in car video to capture all the action.
