Hurst to turbocharge 50 V6 Camaros per year

Photobucket

When gas prices were through the roof a couple of years back, the hot rumor was that modern day muscle cars were going to give up their gas guzzling V8's, go on a diet, and switch to turbocharged V6 power. Well, a little time has passed and we have yet to see the death of the V8 powered muscle car, but there is at least one alternative now.

Hurst Performance Vehicles is rolling out their first ever turbo car in honor of 40th anniversary of the introduction of the BFGoodrich Radial T/A. The car is called the Redline Series Hurst, and only 50 examples will be built each year. The V6 is a 3.6 liter, which will be good for 360 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. Other mods include custom 18 inch wheels, pistol grip shifter, leather seats, and an optional gauge package. Check out all the details in the Press Release below.

For the first time in company history, Hurst Performance Vehicles is offering enthusiasts a turbocharged V6 powered Hurst branded muscle car with the introduction of the Redline Series Hurst Camaro. The company, long known for its highly collectible limited edition muscle cars, announced this new vehicle as part of a partnership with performance tire manufacturer BFGoodrich® Tires, highlighting its BFGoodrich Radial T/A® Spec Redline Edition tire in honor of the 40th anniversary of the Radial T/A line of tires.

The new Redline Series Hurst Camaro begins as an ordinary RS V6 from Chevrolet and is modified at the company's Irvine headquarters transforming into a modern muscle car that performs as well as it looks.

For the exterior, the Redline Series Hurst Camaro wears a unique combination of painted graphics and aerodynamic enhancements. An exclusive Hurst AIR-SPEED™ rear deck spoiler and specially designed five-spoke 18" Hurst T1 alloy wheels are unique to Redline Series cars and help finish off the exterior performance modifications.

The centerpieces of this special edition vehicle are its significant horsepower and fuel economy gains courtesy of forced induction via an STS Turbo. The STS turbocharger is remote mounted in the rear of the car to the Hurst Modified exhaust system. As a result of turbocharging, there is a 50% gain in rear wheel horsepower and additional torque, all the while delivering 30% better fuel economy than the stock Camaro SS with its 6.2 liter V8.

The added power is channeled via either manual or an automatic Hurst HARD-Drive "Pistol Grip" Shifters and put to the ground through the Hurst/Detroit Speed coil-over suspension, sway bars and special BFGoodrich Radial T/A Spec Redline Edition rubber. An optional gauge package is available and includes boost and exhaust temperature gauges

Just as one would expect, the interior is the standard of cool with Hurst/Katzkin leather seating finished with contrast stitching and embroidered Hurst logos, a real metal sequentially numbered interior dash plaque and logo-embroidered floor mats.

Only 50 of these vehicles will be built by Hurst each year and each comes with a custom Hurst car cover, a signed Certificate of Authenticity and signatures in the trunk from the Hurst Team to complete the car's provenance.

Hurst unveils signature color combo on Series 4 Challenger

While gold and white are what Hurst is known for, some folks may want to have their aftermarket Charger in something a little different in order to not look like everyone else. Or maybe they just don't like gold and white.

For whatever reason, you can have your Hurst Challenger in a different color combination, this classy looking silver and black scheme with red trim. And these colors just happen to be the company's traditional colors.

The silver and black cars all come with a unique production number and certificate of authenticity. Niceties include a red anodized pistol grip shifter, 20-inch forged wheels with graphite gray painted spoke inserts, red perforated leather inserts and stitching, and Hurst logos on the dash, grille, wheel caps, floor mats, and on the front fenders. The Performance Series cars also come standard with Eibach suspension upgrades, a Magnaflow exhaust system, BFGoodrich KDW tires, and an optional Vortech supercharger.

PRESS RELEASE:

Hurst Performance Vehicles, one of the most recognized and revered names in automobile history, unveiled the first-ever Series 4 Supercharged 2010 Hurst/Hemi Challenger, dressed in the signature silver and black Hurst colors at the "Back to the Bricks" celebration in Flint, Mich.

Hurst legend, Doc Watson, joined Nate Shelton and Ron Flint of Hurst Performance Vehicles to unveil this newest addition to the Hurst Performance Series, which is complete with red accent stripes and detail throughout.

"We are honored to be here in Flint today to introduce the newest Hurst Executive Hot Rod," said Nate Shelton, Chairman of Hurst. "The Back to the Bricks celebration is the perfect place for us to join Doc and introduce this stunning car as a tribute to Hurst's legacy."

The numbered silver and black Challengers come equipped with a wild red anodized HARD-DRIVE® pistol grip Hurst shifter and 20" one-piece polished aluminum Hurst forged wheels, featuring graphite gray painted spoke insets and red and black Hurst logo wheel centers. Hurst collaborated with Katzkin on the car's black leather interior, which features perforated red inserts, red top-stitching and logos. Each Challenger contains traditional Hurst red and black logos in the dash badge, grille badge, wheel centers, fender graphics and the embroidered floor mats.

Doc Watson and Hurst introduced the silver and black Hurst/Olds with GM in 1968, a program that went on to be the most famous Hurst production program ever.

"I am proud to be part of the continuation of a great Hurst tradition." said Watson. "These wonderful vehicles should prove to be some of the most collectible Hurst cars in the future."

Hurst limited edition cars are well known by enthusiasts worldwide and are some of the most iconic and valuable muscle cars sought out by collectors. The cars are readily recognizable due to Hurst's signature paint schemes and graphics.

The Performance Series cars are a limited numbered series. Each comes with a sequentially numbered dash badge and its own Certificate of Authenticity. These cars all feature Hurst's own AIR-SPEED® rear deck spoiler painted in body colors, Hurst/Eibach suspension, shocks and sway bars, Hurst/Magnaflow polished stainless steel cat-back exhaust, BF Goodrich KDW Performance Tires, Hurst/Katzkin leather interior, embroidered logo floor mats, a custom car cover and K&N Air Filters. Hurst cars feature painted stripes and graphics under clear, not stickers. SERIES 3 through 5 feature HURST/Vortech superchargers.

The HURST/Hemi®-Challenger is available in five performance stages. Series 2 vehicles are available through participating Dodge dealers nationwide, while Series 3, 4 and 5 vehicles are only available from Hurst Performance Vehicles and can be ordered via the company's website at www.hurst-performance.com.

Hurst Competition/Plus Dodge Challenger

Hurst has just announced it's latest version of the Dodge Challenger at the NHRA Motorsports Museum in Pomona, CA. Dubbed the Competition/Plus package, it's not sporting the typical white and gold colors that have become synonymous with the Hurst brand.

The Competition/Plus package was developed in an effort to provide a more economical way for Challenger owners to upgrade their rides, and for those who wanted to have a Hurst that didn't necessarily have to be gold. The package is named after one of the company's legendary shifters.

Only the essentials are present: Hurst 20-inch alloy wheels, color-matched leather inserts and stitching for the interior, matte black exterior accents, and of course a Competition/Plus shifter. Pricing has yet to be announced, but full details should be available soon.

Hurst Pontiac H.O. G8 and G6

Pontiac is getting ready to head to the graveyard of automotive marquees, much like the Plymouths and Oldsmobiles of the past. It's unfortunate for several reasons, one of which is that the G8 is an excellent and underrated car. But Hurst Performance Vehicles, makers of the legendary shifters and most recently the Hurst Hemi Challenger, is going to send Pontiac out with a bang.

Hurst today announced it's plans for an H.O. version of the G6 and G8. Few details have been released regarding the car's respective performance upgrades, but each will feature Hurst's signature black/gold or white/gold paint scheme, forged alloy Hurst wheels, an exclusive Hurst shifter, supercharged engine, suspension upgrades, and a newly trimmed interior.

Hurst sought out performance icon "Doc" Watson, who developed such vehicles as the Hurst Hemi-Under-Glass and the 1972 Pontiac SSJ. Only 52 Hurst H.O. Pontiacs will be built along with ten G6 convertibles used as parade and special event vehicles. More details regarding performance upgrades will be available August 1st, but check out the press release below for more details on the two cars.

PRESS RELEASE:

Flint, Mich. (June 29, 2009) – Hurst Performance Vehicles, one of the most recognized and respected names in automobile history, announced that it has teamed up with newly appointed Hurst Director Emeritus and legendary performance visionary, "Doc" Watson, to build two new Special Edition Hurst/Pontiacs – a 2010 HURST/Pontiac H.O. version of the G8 and a G6 convertible. Hurst Performance President, Ron Flint, and Watson made the announcement together on Saturday at a special event held at the Sloan Museum in Flint, Michigan – the birthplace of GM.

Hurst Performance in Irvine, California, will hand-build only 52 examples of the 2010 HURST/Pontiac H.O. – a modern-day version of George Hurst's "Executive Hot Rod". These numbered cars will feature Hurst's iconic white/gold and black/gold colors along with forged alloy Hurst wheels, an exclusive Hurst shifter, supercharged engine, suspension mods and a specially trimmed interior.

Hurst will also commemorate Doc's famous Pace Cars and build ten HURST/Pontiac G6 convertibles to be used as parade and special event cars.

"Doc started all of this with George back in 1960 with Hurst Performance Research. His Hurst H.O. Pontiacs have stormed drag strips and main streets across the country for 50 years," said Hurst Chairman, Nate Shelton. "There could not be a better time to honor Doc and the legendary Pontiac marque."

Watson's contribution to the American performance landscape is unrivaled. During a 50-year career in the development, manufacturing and marketing of special vehicles, Watson brought to life more than 80 performance cars and racing vehicles, including the original Hurst Oldsmobile, the Hemi-Under-Glass and the 1972 Hurst/Pontiac SSJ. These new HURST/Pontiac's are yet another chapter in his illustrious career.

"If we combine the wisdom earned through the heritage of past Hurst vehicles with the vision of globally beneficial vehicles, we will not be living through the death of the Muscle Car," Watson explained. "Rather, we will see the birth of exciting, passion-filled performance vehicles – vehicles that will give new meaning to lean, mean, and environmentally clean machines. It's a 'new machine age,' and Hurst will be first once again."

Hurst Performance has once again partnered with the Woodhouse Automotive Family of Blair Nebraska as the exclusive Hurst Authorized Pontiac Dealer for sales and service of these exceptional vehicles.

Specifications, pricing and ordering information will be available August 1st on the Hurst website at www.hurst-performance.com.

Hurst announces pricing and power numbers for Hurst HEMI Challenger

Seeing the Hurst HEMI Challenger conjures up warm and fuzzy memories of the original Hurst cars with it's iconic name and white paint scheme with golden stripes. It's great to see the brand living in it's former glory. It makes one nostalgic for the brand, and almost for the original Hurst girl, Linda Vaughn. But alas, not all ages well so we'll move on from that thought.

The Hurst/Hemi Challenger was revealed at last month's SEMA in Las Vegas, and now we have some goods on it. There are 4 stages of tune for the Challenger, which are numbered 2 through 5. Series 2 will add $18,350 to the price of a donated Challenger R/T, which means putting a Hurst Challenger in your driveway will cost at least $48,895. For that sum, you'll get 352 horses, 20-inch alloys and a special paint and graphics kit. Maxing things out will get you a Series 5 SRT8 Hurst Challenger with 572 raging ponies courtesy of a Vortech supercharged 6.1L HEMI V8... all for a cost of $75,395.

The great maker of all things shifty offered it's first special edition muscle car in 1968 with the Hurst Olds. Most of it's vehicles have gone on to become valuable collector's items, and the new Challenger looks to be no exception. See the press release below for more detailed information, and to see how much you will have to spend to snatch your new Hurst.
