Dodge releases pictures of 2010 Mopar Challenger

Photobucket

Mopar has long been a name synonymous with Chrysler performance, and has also long been a supplier of go fast parts. And now they have their name on a tuned version of Dodge's Challenger, the 2010 Mopar Challenger. And with only a reported 500 examples being built, you may want to hurry if you hope to own one.

The cost of entry is $39,000 for the manual transmission equipped version, or $38,000for the automatic. A hood scoop and some accent colors don the outside, while the inside sports Mopar logos, seat thread accents, and a new steering wheel. Drivetrain is the standard, untouched R/T spec Hemi.

Chrysler announces limited edition Mopar '10 Challenger

Photobucket

Mopar is a name that most Chrysler enthusiasts should be quite familiar with, but they are also a parts provider for all things aftermarket. While you have always been able to get parts from Mopar, now they are offering an entire car.

The Mopar '10 Challenger hits dealerships next month with a host of goodies. Based on an R/T Challenger, it adds a hood venting system, cold air intake, front strut brace, engine cover, and strut tower brace to the mix.

On the inside, you will find Katzkin leather seating, Mopar shift handles, leather wrapped steering wheel, and a serialized dash plaque. Only 500 of the Mopar '10 Challengers will be built, starting at $38,000. Hit up the press release below for more details.

Chrysler Group LLC to Introduce Mopar® '10 Challenger

Company Continues to Leverage, Grow Mopar Brand

- Mopar '10 will be available in August
- Pricing starts at $38,000, which includes destination
- Five hundred special-edition cars to be built, customers may pre-order now

For the first time in its history, Chrysler Group LLC will launch a special-edition Mopar® version of one of its vehicles. The Mopar '10, a Mopar 2010 Dodge Challenger, arrives in Dodge dealerships next month.

"Our Mopar '10 Challenger is a collaboration of two iconic brands with tremendous heritage," said Pietro Gorlier, President and CEO of Mopar, Chrysler Group LLC. "Dodge put the heart into this Challenger and Mopar added the soul. The result is a unique, special-edition car that only we can offer."

The U.S. Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for Mopar '10 is $38,000 for an automatic transmission and $39,000 for a manual transmission. Both prices include $750 for destination. Customers may pre-order now.

"Mopar '10 has a wicked, sinister appearance that will turn heads." said Ralph Gilles, President and CEO of Dodge, Chrysler Group LLC. "The Mopar brand resonates with hard-core enthusiasts, and this car will too."

Dodge and Mopar collaborated to create Mopar '10, a "Mopar modified" 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T. Under-the-hood features include the legendary 5.7-liter HEMI® V-8 engine, a hood-venting system, a cold-air intake, a front strut-tower brace with shock caps, and a unique engine cover. Under the decklid is a rear strut-tower brace that stiffens the chassis and improves handling characteristics of the car.

Mopar '10 will be available in Brilliant Black with a choice of three accent colors: Mopar Blue, Red or Silver. Accent colors will appear on side stripes as well as in the stitching on the steering wheel and seats. Exterior features include 20-inch forged heritage gloss-black wheels, black-chromed grille surround, and a functional, vented T/A-style hood with vintage hood pins. Mopar logos and graphics are prominent on the front fascia, hood, hood-pin caps, body-side stripes, windows and on the chromed fuel door. A special Mopar '10 car cover also comes with the vehicle.

Interior features include Katzkin leather seating, custom leather-wrapped steering wheel with baseball-style stitching, Mopar shift handles (T-handle for automatics, Pistol Grip for manuals), a serialized dash plaque with Mopar '10 logo and Mopar branding throughout.

Every customer who purchases a Mopar '10 will receive a special owner kit that includes a certificate with the vehicle identification number (VIN), date of build completion, and build number. The kit also includes a limited-edition sketch of the vehicle signed by Chrysler Group design chief Mark Trostle, a book that highlights the special vehicle build, and Mopar '10 merchandise.

Dodge announces 2010 Challenger Drag Pak availability, '09 sold out

Photobucket

Ah yes, the good old muscle car days. When you can go to the dealer and order a stripped down shell waiting to be finished with your choice of power mill and rung out at the local dragstrip. Those days are now.

On the eve of selling out it's 2009 run of 100 Drag Pak Challengers, Dodge has released details about the upcoming 2010 model. This year, another 100 lucky folks will get a second shot.

A relative bargain at $39,999, the 2010 Drag Pak features a 6.1 liter Hemi V8 hooked up to either a five speed automatic or a six speed manual. The Drag Pak is designed to run in NHRA Stock, Super Stock and Comp Eliminator classes but is not street legal.

The Drag Paks are of course based on the regular old Challenger, but are an astounding 1,000 pounds lighter. This of course is mostly thanks to eliminating anything that doesn't help the car go fast.

If you want one, get in line. You have to submit an application at www.mopar.com or from the Mopar Direct Connection Tech Line at 888-528-HEMI (4363).

• Priced at $39,999, production to start this summer
• Applications now available at www.mopar.com
• First-year build program in 2009 sold out

Auburn Hills, Mich., Feb 22, 2010 - Following a first-year sell out of 100 factory-built program vehicles in 2009, Mopar announced its 2010 Dodge Challenger Drag Pak program.

For 2010, the non-street legal V-8 powered, rear-wheel drive Dodge Challenger is available with the 6.1 liter HEMI® that may be set up with a 5-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission.

"We're proud of our drag racing heritage at Mopar and we will continue to support our drag-race customers where they compete," said Pietro Gorlier, President and Chief Executive Officer - Mopar Service, Parts and Customer Care, Chrysler Group LLC. "The Dodge Challenger Drag Pak program was a success last year, and we'll be carrying that momentum into our 2010 build."

Based on the 2010 Dodge Challenger SRT8® and finished in a Stock Eliminator configuration, Mopar engineers eliminated select production components and systems to reduce vehicle weight by approximately 1,000 pounds. To accentuate weight savings, the Dodge Challenger Drag Pak features unique drag-race components including: composite lift-off hood with functional scoop, Dodge Viper-style front seats, polycarbonate door windows, a light-weight cooling module with electric fan, manual rack-and-pinion steering, a special cable-operated deck-lid release, special light-weight front-brake assemblies and special cable-operated throttle linkage and pedal assembly.

The Dodge Challenger Drag Pak features a retro Stone White paint scheme and is sanctioned for NHRA Stock, Super Stock and Comp Eliminator drag racing. The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price is $39,999 and production begins this summer.

The 2009 Dodge Challenger Drag Pak program commemorated the 40th anniversary of the legendary 1968 Dodge Hemi Dart and Plymouth Hemi Barracuda package cars. The '68 Package Cars were sold as actual running cars with VIN identification. The 2009 and 2010 Package Cars are not running cars and do not come with VIN identification.

Orders for the 2010 Challenger Drag Pak must be submitted using the Dodge Challenger Drag Pak Application which is available now at www.mopar.com or from the Mopar Direct Connection Tech Line at 888-528-HEMI (4363). Customers should work with their local Dodge dealer to submit their application.

About Mopar
Mopar distributes approximately 280,000 parts and accessories in more than 90 countries and is the source for all original equipment parts for Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram vehicles. Mopar parts are unique in that they are engineered with the same teams that create factory-authorized vehicle specifications for Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram vehicles – a direct connection that no other aftermarket parts company can provide.

More than 70 Years of Mopar
When Chrysler bought Dodge in 1928, the need for a dedicated parts manufacturer, supplier and distribution system to support the growing enterprise led to the formation of the Chrysler Motor Parts Corporation (CMPC) in 1929.

Mopar (a simple contraction of the words Motor and PARts) was trademarked for a line of antifreeze products in 1937. It also was widely used as a moniker for the CMPC. The Mopar brand made its mark in the 1960's – the muscle-car era. The former Chrysler Corporation built race-ready Dodge and Plymouth "package cars" equipped with special high-performance parts. Mopar carried a line of "special parts" for super stock drag racers and developed its racing parts division, called Mopar Performance Parts, in order to enhance speed and handling for both road and racing use.

Dodge celebrates 40 years of performance with Furious Fuchsia Challengers, 15 most popular performance upgrades revealed

PhotobucketBack in the day, folks liked their Mopar muscle cars in some pretty funky colors. Plum Crazy and Panther Pink, and all sorts of vibrant colors were a guarantee that you would attract attention. Now Dodge is reaching back to the past with the insanely bright, almost pinkish Furious Fushia color for it's Challenger.

According to Dodge president and CEO Ralph Gilles, the introduction of the retro color celebrates "four decades of Challenger performance." We'll just stick with black, thanks.

In other Mopar news, it seems that the average Dodge Challenger owner spends about $600 on accessories and performance parts from Chrysler's Mopar catalog. Strangely enough, the most popular item are the brushed stainless steel door sill guards.

See the press release below for the complete list of Mopar's top selling Challenger accessories.

Video: LMC Super Cuda breaks 200mph mark racing Ferrari Enzo

Back at this year's SEMA, one of the coolest cars in attendance was the Legendary Motor Company built Super 'Cuda. A twin turbo Viper V-10 thumps to the tune of around 1,000 horsepower underhood and a nicely done restomod look add up to one serious ride.

And all of that is not just for show. LMC recently brought out the Super 'Cuda and a Ferrari Enzo (for good measure) to Chrysler's Chelsea, Michigan proving grounds for some fun.

In a straight line, the Super Cuda rules as expected. It is so fast, as a matter of fact, that on one pass the the windshield molding came off and the hood lifted by three inches. When it comes to ultimate top speed, however, the Enzo wins with a top speed of 218 mph to the Cuda's 208. But seriously, 200+ mph in a Barracuda? Insane.

HPP Daytona conversion - a closer look

One of the real showstoppers at SEMA was this converted Dodge Challenger turned retro Daytona. Heide Performance Products is behind this retro ride, and their president, Gordon M. Heidacker, has been in the car business for 23 years. Heidacker started HPP to fill, "a general hole in the market for accessories and upscale vehicles that could be converted into passionate expressions of metal, glass, plastic to become rolling art."

And a rolling piece of art the Daytona is. Heidacker had a conversation with Chrysler explaining what he and his team wanted to do. And if Chrysler liked it, they'd fund it. But, as Heidacker points out, they "Delivered that proposal to Mopar exactly 1.5 hours before they declared bankruptcy. So we decided to internally fund the project."

SEMA 2009: HPP Dodge Challenger Daytona

The Daytona/Superbird was built during a time when manufacturers would do anything for a competitive advantage in NASCAR. It wasn't really supposed to even sell, but it's cool race car looks have earned it a place in muscle car lore.

HPP brought out a new version to SEMA, based on the new Challenger. Although it packs a standard no frills 5.7L Hemi, it's the outside that counts. The whole car screams Hot Wheels, and just looks plain awesome.

SMS 570 Dodge Challenger revealed!

Steve Saleen is determined to show everyone that his new company is different from the old one. He did so by renting out a rave club in Orange County. When the cover of the mystery vehicle was removed, it revealed the new SMS 570 Challenger.

The first SMS 570 Challenger, in fact. And it's headed to Barrett Jackson for auction after it's unveiling. The 570 is a mean looking machine, with revised body panels and red butterfly induction hood flaps.

The shade of purple that adorns those revised fenders is a shade of purple that is similar to Plum Crazy, but Saleen dubs it "Plum Insane."

The SMS Signature Series 570 Challenger does most of it's damage from under the hood, however. The already potent 5.7L Hemi sports a supercharger, raising horsepower to 500 in base trim and going all the way up to 700 horsepower.

There are also a host of suspension, brake, and interior changes to make the package a complete turnkey supercar. Production is set to begin at the end of January, with prices expected to be in the $60,000 to $70,000 range. 2010 SMS Mustangs and Camaros should follow later this year, according to Steve.

PRESS RELEASE

Steve Saleen and his company SMS are well on the way to production with the first vehicle in

the line of Signature Series ultra-high performance vehicles. The SMS 570 Challenger will

be the first vehicle with a host of aesthetic and functional innovations including the patented

Mopar Alley

One of the coolest features at SEMA is the famed Mopar Alley, where Chrysler brings out some of its more historically significant vehicles. The Challenger was highlighted and everything from a 1971 Prostock Hemi to the current 2009 R/T were on display. There was even a 1970 Dodge Challenger that was one of five used in the movie Vanishing Point and this particular one was used as the main stunt vehicle. There were some pretty cool Mopar trucks as well, including a 1946 Dodge Power Wagon, the 1979 Dodge Lil Red Express, and a 1989 Jeep Cherokee Sport. We especially loved the 1986 Dodge Ram Baja that was raced in Mexico in 1987.

Mr Norm's AAR 'Cuda

The Dodge Challenger is offering tuners one of the hottest platforms to work with since the current-era Mustang arrived in 2003. And although this is supposed to be the year of the Camaro, there are tons of cool Challengers here at SEMA.

One of our favorites is actually badged as a 'Cuda built by Mr. Norm's Garage. Yes, that Mr. Norm, the legendary owner of Grand Spaulding Dodge that was famous for building some of the fastest Mopars in the country during the muscle car glory days.

The car you see here is one of two the company put together for this year's show. This one is made to replicate an AAR 'Cuda. It features a supercharged version of the 6.1L Hemi putting out 900 horsepower (!), forged wheels, Hotchkis suspension upgrades, massive SSBC brakes, and a custom front clip that makes it look more like a Plymouth. Very hot car.

Group Five Limited Challenger Speedster

There are certain to be dozens of variations of Challengers at this year's SEMA show, some will be versions that Dodge may not be interested in producing. One of the biggest is chopping the roof off, which Dodge won't do because of cost and weight considerations.

But for the lovers of open air motoring, anything can be done. We already reported on one converted 'vert from Coach Builders LTD, and now we bring you sketches of a second one, from Group Five Limited.

This Challenger 'vert comes sans top and with a cut-down windshield for that classic "speedster" profile. Other body mods clean up the front and rear fascias for a true shaved, custom look.

Hotchkis Dodge Challenger(s) to debut at SEMA

Ok, it's a bad photoshop. But the picture above gives you an idea of one of two Dodge Challengers that Hotchkis will be bringing to SEMA.

The two matching Challengers will bring focus to the company's blend of old and new. The two matching Challengers – a 1970 T/A 340 Six-Pack and a 2009 SRT8 – will share yellow paint schemes, graphics and wheels, along with a host of parts that should make the T/A stick as well as – if not better – than the 2009 model.

The 1970 Challenger, known as E-MAX, was originally converted to 340 Six-Pack trim by the previous owner, and now features new fabricated steel upper A-arms bolted into relocated pickup points, strut rods with Heim joints, aluminum steering rods and a set of front and rear sway bars, along with a new set of springs that lower the Granddaddy Challenger by two inches. In addition to replacing the aging front suspension, Hotchkis set out to create a well-rounded classic, equipping the T/A with Stoptech brakes, a Flowmaster exhaust and Forgeline wheels wrapped in Yokohama tires.

Hotchkis likes to point out that all its suspension parts can be removed and replaced with the factory units, allowing owners to keep things traditional for shows and swapped out when the time comes to drive.

Dodge Mopar Challenger Targa and Blacktop

If a V-10 powered Challenger or a 900hp Challenger are too unbalanced for your tastes, we present something that can carve some corners just as well as melt your tires. The Challenger Targa will debut alongside these other variations at SEMA, and will campaign in the Targa Newfoundland enduro.

Affectionately known as "Samantha," the Challenger began its existence as a Mopar Challenger drag race car, complete with a 392 HEMI V8 crate motor putting 540 hp and 490 lb.-ft. of torque to the rear wheels via a Tremec six-speed manual and a modified rear diff. The green hue of the Challenger Targa is pulled from the Viper, but the snake's influence doesn't stop at aesthetics. A KW race-ready suspension, six-piston calipers with 380mm Stop-Tech rotors (front) and 355mm, rear discs with four-pot calipers are all culled from the V10 'Ring-slayer.

In addition to the Targa model, Dodge and Mopar will debut the Challenger Blacktop at SEMA, retaining the 5.7-liter V8 and six-speed manual gearbox. Most of the modifications focus on style, including the black-on-black racing stripe paint scheme, custom spoilers and front brow. A Mopar coilover kit drops the Blacktop over 22-inch Viper wheels created by Factory Reproductions and wrapped in 265/35/R22 (front) and 305/30/R22 (rear) Dunlop rubber. A Mopar cat-back exhaust and cold air intake remain the only modifications to the engine, and if the V8's sound isn't intoxicating enough, a Kicker audio system will keep the Blacktop's driver entertained while bombing along Highway 15 on their way to the SEMA festivities in Sin City.

900 Horsepower Super Challenger and Super 'Cuda to debut at SEMA

The new Challenger is a tasty new templet for tuners, being that it is fairly fresh off showroom floors and still turning heads on the highway. There will no doubt be plenty of variations of the new/old musclecar on the floors of SEMA, but the ones we'll be most looking forward to are the two being built by Mr. Norm's garage.

Who's Mr. Norm, you ask? He's the legendary owner of Grand Spaulding Dodge that was famous for building some of the fastest Mopars in the country. Mr. Norm is now working his magic on the current Dodge lineup, and will be be showcasing the two Challengers you see here. The Super Challenger features a supercharged version of the 6.1L Hemi putting out 900 tire-shredding horsepower plus Rodtana forged wheels, Hotchkis suspension upgrades, massive SSBC brakes, and a custom front spoiler and side scoops. The other Challenger features similar performance upgrades but has been converted to replicate the legendary AAR Cuda.

PRESS RELEASE:

Holy horsepower! It's Mr. Norm and his Super Challenger.

Armed with a pavement pounding 900 horsepower Kenne Bell supercharged and intercooled 6.1 Hemi engine, the Super Challenger is the new Sheriff in town. The neon lit streets and shadowy alleys are rife with pimped out sedans, wicked coupes, and other automotive scum. Life is over for these creatures of the night, 'cause Mr. Norm and the Super Challenger are here to run 'em out of Dodge.

Just the sight of the Super Challenger strikes fear into the hearts of carminals everywhere. With its Jet Black body and Blazing Red stripe, punctuated with the legendary Mark of Mr. Norm on the front fenders, they'll know that they've more than met their match when they face off against the Super Challenger.

And no super heroes ride would be complete without a Katzkin custom leather interior. The guts of the Super Challenger exudes Mr. Norm's take no prisoners attitude, with its black leather and contrasting red accents. Our hero grabs gears with a Hurst Pistol Grip Shifter, the most powerful shifter in the world. Do 'ya feel lucky, punk?

Mr. Norm's Super Challenger forged wheels by Rodtana wear Pirelli Scorpion Zero tires that grip the asphalt with cat woman like claws. Hotchkis Performance created the lowered suspension that provides the crouching, ready to strike stance, while SSBC 8 Piston Disc Brakes are ready to take a Big Bite out of crime.

The bellicose sound produced by the Corsa Performance exhaust on the Super Challenger may wake up the dead in its attempt to muffle the 900 horsepower raging elephant that resides just beneath the Mopar Six Pack hood, but it's music to Mr. Norm's ears. And the Super Challenger's front spoiler and side scoops by Hulst Customs provide the finishing touch to the exterior, providing proof positive that badass really is beautiful.

Introducing the Mr. Norm's Super Cuda.

Drawing inspiration from its race bred relative, the legendary 1970 AAR Cuda, the Super Cuda features a dramatic restyling package that matches heart stopping good looks with heart pounding performance.

Amplifying its presence, the Super Cuda features a modern interpretation of the classic Cuda grille and tail panel, coupled with an aggressive front spoiler that infuses it with undeniable character. Reinforcing the theme, the sides of the Hemi Orange Super Cuda are boldly accented with satin black strobe stripes by Sharpline Converting that match the sinister Sherwin-Williams Planet Color Badass Black that covers the hood and adjacent surfaces, much like its storied ancestor. Inside, the cockpit features a Hurst Shifter for precise shifting of the five speed transmission, a Katzkin "Barracuda" custom leather interior with Hemi Orange perforated inserts and Super Cuda monogrammed carpet mats by Designer Mat.

And if all that's not enough, just wait 'til you push the start button and awaken the wild 900 horsepower Kenne Bell supercharged 16 plug HEMI engine. Singing its siren song through a low restriction Corsa Performance cat back dual exhaust system, the Super Cuda balances tire smoking power with a tuned suspension engineered by Hotchkis Performance. Insuring fade free stops from high speed are massive Stainless Steel Brakes V8 8-Piston calipers. Rolling stock consists of Rodtana 22" modular wheels matched with Pirelli Scorpion Zero Assimetrico ultra high performance tires.

Add it all up and you've got the new Mr. Norm's Super Cuda, the street lethal sport coupe. Armed with nothing less than a ground pounding 6.1 Hemi engine, it's complemented by a chassis with just the right mix of components to harness its power. The Super Cuda looks like a wolf in wolfs clothing, because it is. This is one vehicle that speaks loudly and carries a very big stick.

Force Performance to build two door TriCharger

Fans of the original B body Charger from the 60's and 70's have no doubt been disappointed that Chrysler reintroduced the classic musclecar with no less than four doors. And while the car has been a sales success, there are still die hard Mopar fans that will tell you that selling the car with four doors is a big mistake and an insult to the car's lineage. Not to mention the 80's Charger with front wheel drive and a four cylinder, but we won't go there.

A company by the name of Force Performance is currently working to rectify the situation at hand by chopping up an LX based Charger and making it a proper coupe. The scalloped doors from the 68-70 Charger have made the conversion along with a twin-nostril split grille reminiscent of the classic '69. We can also see a well-domed hood, which is necessary for clearance over the insane HEMI V8 engine that's both twin turbocharged and supercharged. Three blowers, hence the TriCharger name. That's a lot of boost.
